WEEK 1 - Introduction of Sustainable Development

17 Goals towards Sustainable Development and Transformation – MSFI

Understanding Sustainable Development: A Class Reflection

Introduction
Today’s lesson introduced us to the concept of Sustainable Development and how it plays a role in our lives. We started by sharing personal details like our names, what we study, and where we are from. We also described ourselves in one word and shared one word about the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). The teacher explained the importance of being “sustainable” through interesting examples and facts, showing how it helps protect our planet. We also discussed the class plan and assignments for the year.

Key Learnings
The class provided a lot of valuable insights into sustainability. I learned how even small actions, when repeated often, can have a big impact on the environment—both positively and negatively. This made me realize how important it is to be mindful of our behavior. Although some concepts and models were new and a bit confusing, the examples given by the teacher made the lesson relatable and helped me understand the basics of sustainability.

Taking Action
This lesson taught me that our actions can influence the world around us. By recognizing how our behavior affects the planet, we can start making better choices. I believe the first step to improving our habits is understanding why change is necessary. This class inspired me to think about how I can help my community and be more sustainable in my daily life.

Improvement Plan
One area I need to work on is staying updated about global issues and events. I don’t know much about the news, so I plan to read one news story online each day to learn more about what’s happening in the world. This will help me understand sustainability and how it connects to real-life situations.

Conclusion
This class gave me a clearer understanding of Sustainable Development, but there is still more to learn. I am particularly interested in exploring the 17 goals of the SDGs and understanding how they connect to Islam. By the next class, I hope to build on what I’ve learned and deepen my knowledge of sustainability. This journey has already started to change how I view my role in caring for the planet and society.
